I am in Control Day.........
This day will always be on March 30th. Why?
On March 30, 1981, President Ronald Reagan was wounded in an assassination attempt. Lots of confusion prevailed. In the White House, then Secretary of State Alexander Haig was taken a little out of context when he said "I am in control here". Instead of focusing upon the entire statement, people and the press focused upon these few words. Political uproar eventually led to his resignation. The political junkies in the room may not remember the day but they will remember the statement by the Secretary of State.
On that day, I am in Control Day was born.
As we all know history sometimes fades with time. Alexander Haig's statement was all but forgotten. Meanwhile, this special day continued on, and evolved. People would come to think about this day in a different context. They would personalize it into a day to get their life in control. In that sense, today is definitely a call to action. "I am in Control Day" is your chance to get things in order and under control. Are you ready?
Most likely, the first step is to take a deep breath and relax. Now, assess the situation, and then get things under control. Once you have accomplished this today, you can work on staying in control tomorrow and the next day and the next day and……..well you get the picture.
Important Note: YOU don't want to forget the real roots of I Am in Control Day, as spoken by Secretary of State Alexander Haig in 1981.
Howdy and morning to you Don
Don, I sure do remember Haig making that there statement, and the uproar that came about from it. Plus I remember the Country that I was in and what I was doing, when it all came about.
Have a good one
Dale in New Hampshire
It was also the birth of the Brady Bill, if I remember correctly.
I have started using the Wii Fit yoga focus activity. I decide what I am going to do, then focus on when and how I am going to do while watching the flame. The clarity of my day is incredible.
Don:
As Alexander Haig found out, "control is an illusion"...
The only thing I'm in control of is ME... and even I don't agree with that...
Great blog and thanks for remembering the most frustrating day in the past 30 years...
Of course...I'm depending on our current Pres to be frustrating to the Max.
Tom
Hi Done, I remember this event as though it was yesterday. It is a great reminder of taking the "I am in Control Day" to a higher level and applying it in all aspects of our lives. Speaking of which, I need to get back to work, LMAO
My wife ohly let's me think that I am in control so I can keep my Macho appearance!
A good post, today while out I almost lost control...I took a deep breath and now I am in control...WHEW!
Dale,
It was the worst of times when that happened and I sure hope it doesn't happen again.
Michael,
It is amazing how time does heal some wounds. One would wonder how long we have to wait on some others tho.......
Kathy,
You are so right ma'am it was. I was surprised to hear how close the President was to dying that day.
Tom,
I am thinking that you may be on to something with the current Pres.
William,
You are so right we do need to take the attitude of the post and apply it to our daily lives.
William F,
Aren't all wives the same? They give us just enough control to make us think that we are in total control of everything.
Rebecca,
In this business it is easy to lose control of things and ourselves.
Hi Don - I do remember that day like it was yesterday. Although I can't what I did yesterday:(
Conrad,
I have lost control when I posted about the clams now I am struggling to get control back. What did you say?
Don, you could have fooled me! Yesterday I felt totally out of control, and if only I'd read this post then, I might have been inspeired to turn it around. Today is going to be even crazier.
Good morning Pat,
I do hope that your day is going much better that it did yesterday.
