THE SMELL TEST...

By
Real Estate Agent with Austin Texas Homes

A recent experience in a home reminded me of how important it is that a home for sale past the smell test. Sometimes it is difficult for us to be objective if we are accustom to the smell. Have someone walk through your home and give you a true smell review.

If you fail the smell test track down the odor and eliminate don't just cover with candles or plug in fragrances. One you elimate the souce then you can bring on the fragrances but be subtle. Do not overpower. Choose light fragerances. The idea is to create a faint pleasent smell through out the home.

How funny and how true.  I went to a broker open house last week and it was a mix of dog and cigarettes and cleaning products.... Everyone commented... I hope the owner gets the hint.

Smell test = VERY important!  So often, we get "used" to the smells in OUR home, but others sure notice them!

I can handle dogs, cats, and cigarettes. But those chemical smells send me out the door immediately!

There are great products on the market that absorb the smell instead of covering them up. I get nauseous when I walk into a home with artificial fragrances even scented candles will give me allergies. Good suggestion to have someone not living in the home walk through.

Ohhh this is so true. And I know it is true of my home. I have a 65 pound labrador retriever who spends most of her time in the living room- on the area rug. My wife and I will be shampooing those rugs again soon...
