Home comes complete with Gambel's Quail: Mike in Tucson, AZ mortgage lender

~ Gambel's Quail ~

We had dinner Sunday afternoon with friends up in Oro Valley (NW of Tucson.) After a scrumptious meal, we all sat outside taking in the view of Pusch Ridge. I naturally had my camera with me.

It's spring in the desert, and this male Gambel's quail is looking for a mate. Ignoring the humans completely, he strutted quickly through the yard, flew up to the wall that surrounds the yard, and found the highest spot - a post on the corner.

Puffing out his chest, he began to call, advertising his availability to the ladies.

Don't you like his head-dress?!

I love to watch birds. That's a really good shot you have there. I don't think I've ever seen that kind of quail before.

Mike, I have a family in my tree that sits right outside my home office window. Their antics running up an down the tree are hilarious. I'll try to catch them in the next couple of days, but I hate to disturb the ladies while they're nesting.

We used to see a lot of quail in the northwest - we don't see so many of them anymore, I'm not sure why, but it's a shane we don't see them much....
