Using YouTube to promote your community: Sandpoint Blog

Services for Real Estate Pros

While videos are great for selling things, in our case real estate, it is paramount to promote the communities you are targeting. In my case, I love my community. I want others to love it. Showing what our town and region is all about helps get that sentiment across. Pictures sell a listing, but videos really communicate the essence of a place.

Last Sunday I saw a great 'Traditions' band play rock and blues at a neighborhood spot. It was a great acoustic concert by Cody Beebe and the Crooks at Di Luna's in Sandpoint, Idaho. Always great festivals and things going on in Sandpoint, what with gigantic Lake Pend Oreille underneath Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort. Still, one of the best things is the music scene.

This groups was surprising, and being from New Orleans, they made me feel right at home. Check out their website: http://www.codybeebeandthecrooks.com/

You can always learn more about Sandpoint and North Idaho from real estate to my radio shows at noon on Tuesdays on KSPT and KBFI.

I am in favor of video, but what equipment is everyone using? I have an old Flip and my Canon takes movies, but how do you get a good picture and not so much movement?

Very good plan of action Gary.  I have begun exploring YouTube this year, and I intend to put together some great videos about the community this year as one of my projects.

Kathy,

Most of the newer point-and-shoot cameras have better video in them than the best video cameras had just a couple of years ago. I chose my Kodak Z980 because it was 12 megapixels, has wide angle (24mm) and zooms 600. Plus, the video is 1080p Hi-def.

What this means is it has everything I need for real estate for under $500.

Some tricks are to try and get artistic angles, you know, not straight on shots, and not to zoom when possible.

That is the biggest drawback is the subpar zoom.

You can easily edit with Microsoft Movie Maker, and best of all, it's free. I also use CyberDirector, which only costs about $100.

Anyway, as you can see, my videos aren't so great, but compared to what people are putting on YouTube in my community, they are much better, and hopefully brings attention to my town and paints me in a good light.

Hope this helps.

Gary
