A politician living up to his promise? What's up with that?

Denver's Mayor John HickenlooperThe election in Denver was a fiasco this month.  New computer voting at centers not precincts led to EXTREMELY long lines, hot tempers and not nearly enough apologies.  Worse yet the dedicated voters who toughed out the wait returned to their cars to find PARKING Tickets for their trouble.

Turn the clock back a few years.  Remember John Hickenlooper before he was Mayor of Denver?  Recall his charmingly different political commercials with him on a Moped.  Or him putting a quarter into the parking meter?

He won the election because of the parking meters...kind of.

Well last week Mayor Hickenlooper made the National  News, MSNBC, FOX News, and NPR recognized and praised Mayor Hickenlooper.

Why?

Because for all the voters who received parking tickets on election day, The Mayor is taking responsibility for the screw up and PAYING Everyones fines.

The media calls his action Mayoral Magnanimity...

I call it living up to your line.

Jeff,

Tickets are just tickets, it doesn't take much to make them go away.

Happy TD to you too.

Will wonders never cease!?!?!?!?!?

Of course, being the Mayor, I suspect he'll just make them go away and not actually pay them, but for those ticket holders, not having to pay them is what matters, I guess.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Sounds like the right thing to do - especially if he pays them - perhaps a campaign expense?

Happy Thanksgiving from The Marriott Group at Keller Williams Realty Professional Partners!

Ann ~ Yes the folks that received the tickets will be happy.

Suzanne Marriott, Lenn ~ think of the tickets like a mulligan.  They didn't happen.  I really don't know if he's paying them personally, or just making them go away. Either way the citizen doesn't get fined for doing his civic duty...sounds fare to me.

Alex ~ Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Thanks for stopping by all!

KK: I don’t know how things work in Denver, but in St. Paul, our mayor has the ability to forgive tickets if he desires, not only that, but referees also may invalidate tickets for cause—the cost to taxpayers is minimal, if any—the fines were never collected, hence the money never received in the first place. In this case, it seems to me, taxpayers (voters ARE taxpayers) saved far more than they lost!
