Oh spring cleaning....a task that seems to come much more often than once a year. It begins hanging over me at the end of winter after all the big holidays have finished up, then lingers into the warm months until it is so evidently spring that my sinuses are screaming at me. It really isn't even that bad...once I'm doing it, it actually starts to feel really great to re-organize. It's the getting started. But, if you have a plan from the get go and know some really great shortcuts, it's not quite as hard to start. Below are a few shortcuts to make spring cleaning something much more manageable and less ominous.
-Carpets/rugs: Your secret weapon: LA's Totally Awesome cleaner and degreaser. Put it on the trouble spots, vacuum it up for 30 seconds or so, and leave the windows open for some fresh air. Then, voila! Fresh carpets and rugs!
-Windows: An easy fix is to attach one of Windex's outdoor window sprays to the end of your hose and give it a good spray. Finish up with some soapy water for the trouble spots and don't forget to dry it off with some microfiber cloths. For a cleaner, less streaky window, choose a day without wind.
-Curtains: Find a good wrinkle releaser spray, and then proceed to steam the curtains starting at the bottom and going up. Finish the job with open windows to allow them to dry thoroughly.
-Mattresses: Wash or dry clean all the linens and spread a coat of baking soda evenly on the mattress to pull out any dirt or odors. Vacuum it up on the next sheet changing day. To add some extra freshness, keep some dryer sheets between the mattress and the mattress pad/cover.
Hope you can find the energy (and motivation) to start this year's spring cleaning off with a bang!
