I have an obsession with Asian food. I've grown up with different cultures and frequented noodle shops back in my home state, all you can eat sushi joints, and learned how to cook various cultures foods from families whose children are first generation American.
Authentic and traditional Asian food is something I search for now that I live in Florida and sadly it is extremely hard to come by. My boss, Leon Moody of The Moody Group, had mentioned he saw a Thai shop being put in next door to where we work. My eyes lit up! Thai food? I wonder how it tastes... Oh how I couldn't wait for it to finally open!
Sadly I missed Top Thai'sGrand Opening which was the 25th of March, but yesterday during a horrible storm that was battering the Tampa region I decided to brave the rain and go get some warm food instead of what I had brought for lunch, and I am happy that I did. When I got to the door it looked closed since the windows are tinted, but as soon as I opened it I didn't expect to see a nice restaurant, and a classy looking one at that. I fully expected a small little hole in the wall like one of those Chinese quick take-out places where theres no space for you to sit. Never judge a book by it's cover!
With it being so cold outside I ordered Mussamun, their Curry with coconut milk, peanut, potatoes, onion and Chicken.... Oh my nose was making my mouth water when I brought it back to my office. It has been so long since I had Thai Curry, done right. I've tried Pei Wei and could barely stomach what they served me. Top Thai did a FANTASTIC job, coconut curry over a bed of white rice made the trek out into the lightning and pouring rain worth it.
Not to mention I reccomend Thai Tea and Thai Coffee especially on a hot day! Or even a cold one for that matter. I had the Thai Coffee and it was chilly!
Well, this afternoon I raved about Top Thai to Leon and Nydia and said how good it was. Leon packed up the office and we went for a road trip, about two doors down, to show him what this place was all about.
Upon entering you are greeted by friendly faces and wonderful ambiance. The walls are decorated tastefully and colorfully. Even if the decor isn't finished, a waterfall is being installed, it is definitely worth sitting in for lunch. The service is fantastic, and the owner Gina Dunckley is quick to serve you with a smile.
The food is great and everyone loved their meal.Today I had to Pad Thai, Nydia had the Tom Yum Koong, and Leon had Pad Ginger and Scallion.
We highly reccomend Top Thai and hope you will visit there shortly! It is definitely worth the drive out to New Tampa to try.
