"Working Out" on Getting Business

I started this crazy, rollercoaster of a business, selling full time January 2007.  Though I was licensed for over a year before that, I thought the business was going to roll in on its own.  Well, it did to some degree but not to what I thought was going to happen.  I quickly figured out I had to get my name out to the public but in a unique way.  There wasn't a point doing what everyone else did, because I would just look like everyone else.

The first thing I did was made sure I went to the gym everyday AND during peak times!  You may think thats nuts but heres why I did it: THERES PEOPLE THERE!  haha There is no sense going when no one is there.  Who can you talk to?  So, I would go each morning from about 6:00am till 7:00 or so and do my cardio run.  Each day someone new (for the most part) would be beside me and see what shirt I was wearing.  It would say: TEAM TURNER!  and my brokerage with a phone number.  So, anyone at the gym when I was there knew I was a Realtor.  Some would even say, "Well if you're here working out, how can you sell my house?!".  I would simply joke, "I'm building myself up for speed to catch those buyers!".  I know its a stupid line but it always made them laugh (I'm also a 235 pound bodybuilder thats definately not built for speed!)  Or, I would tell them i am 'staging' my body for a better sale.  hahaha...sometimes I think I say the jokes for my own benefit.

I just thought that since a daily exercise program is a healthy choice, you might as well have fun with it.  My gym averages about 20 people each time I am there and once you start going on a regular basis, you start to make some good relationships.  You will be surprised how quickly people start to know you in your town.
