Hey Rain Makers....I wrote on this a while ago, but it's worth revisiting.  For me, I'm always interested in finding out who're some of your favorite folks to follow on Active Rain?  Why?  I'm kind of a snob when it comes to following people.  I don't wnat to follow just anyone.  But I do like to follow a lot of folks.  But what gets me to follow a blogger on the on the

BLOG-0-METER!!!!!

Bump the product up because I want to follow

In Illinois the Blog-o-meter was use seing how much time Rod Blagojavech had remaining as governor of Illinois.  Now that Rod is history the Blog-O-Meter for me, personally, is your ability to attract and retain me as your reader.

I do subscribe to some awesome writers, but what is it that attracts me to them?

It's not as easy as a one, two three, but I do have a top list of items that I look for. It's not important that a writer has all three, but if they are good at even one element, I'm in!  I think that goes true for clients, consumers and public, non-active readers.

Recently, I just dropped 10 People who haven't blogged since last year!

1)  CONSISTENCY

Again, you don't need to be spitting posts out daily, but I'd like to see you once a week at a minimum.  I don't care how good you are at educating, blogging or entertaining, if you don't show, but once every blue moon, then why bother?  I've dropped 10 people who haven't blogged since last year.  You're in it to win it.  Why take up my list....I used to love you, but where'd you go?

2)  BE INTERESTING

I gotta have something to follow.  Just listings - boring!  I know you need to get em out there, but, hey, if I'm going to refer to you.....Give me more.  Tell me about you, the business, etc. Just rates and rate watches - double boring.  Market directions - boring....I can get those without you.  Boring, boring, boring!!!! IT TELLS ME NOTHING ABOUT YOU!

3)  EDUCATE ME

I love learning.  If I'm serious about success in 2011, the I really don't have a choice.  But, quite frankly, I love learning.  I'm getting better at this whole blogging and HTML thing, but barely.  QR, SMS, and just about anyting with any technology bell and whistle I'm as dumb as a stump.   

4)  DON'T OVERSELL ME!

I hate having crap shoved down my throat!  I hate gagging on a meal.  I'll puke and I hate puking.  Let me pick and chose what I want to eat.  Tease me.  Give me an appetizer, and if I want more, let it be my decision.  If you shove it down my throat, I'm gone.

5) PERSONALITY

I don't care what you have to say. if you have personality and can engage and entertain, I'm in.  I love peole a little left of center!  I'm as off center as you can get.  If you can't educate me, at least entertain me.  Who wouldn't love an entertaining writer.  I love quick wits!  I love humor, but I don't need it.  Just engage me.  Then...I love you long time!

Larry.....personality is high on the list, but I also agree with Don't Oversell Me.  I had being "sold" so I try not to do it either in my blog or in person.  I figure if I don't like it, chances are others don't either.

Larry: You are sure on target here--although I suggest that the people who write most of the posts here do mostly  market data---good information but I think a little stretching of the mental muscles is also needed to get my interest in following...

Hey, this is a good list.  I have people on my subscription list who haven't written a thing in over a year.  I've left them on there in the hopes that one day they'll bob to the surface.

I'm going to have to review my reasons for subscribing. You're an inspiration, man!

I guess we all gravitate to writers that inspire us in some way. Once I subscribe to someone I won't unsubscribe unless they stop blogging for a while. No reason to be subscribed to an inactive blogger.

Larry, If you have a grading grid you can cross  off #1 and #4 after my name.  I blog often and I don't sell anything.  Now let's talk about #2, 3 and 5. 

#2 I try not to bore my readers or students in my classes.

#3 I have been a teacher all my life.  I have never had someone fall asleep in my class.

#4 Well, the jury is still debating the personality thing.

Great post.  I have deleted a few my subscription list, too.

Great list Larry.  Consistency is not as important to me.  If they haven't written in over a year, then maybe I would drop them.  Interesting-of course.  Education-absolutely.  Personality-necessary.  AND I absolutely support the statement DON'T OVERSELL ME!  Then I'm outta here!

Great post!  Good reason's to subscribe to another person.  I subscribe to people who I have connection with and interact with here on AR.  Or if they are a great writer and have good content like you always do then that would be a reason for me to subscribe too!
