Tip of the Week Blog Series

Did you know you can control exactly when your web site visitors are required to submit their contact information? WolfNet provides to its IDX subscribers an admin tool called "Site Login Options" that enables you to designate at what point in the process the visitor must complete the registration form. To access Site Login Options, do the following:

1. Login to your WolfNet IDX Administration area at www.mlsfinder.com/admin, or just go to www.wolfnet.com

2. Select Property Search Configuration from the left side of the navigation, or the body of the admin homepage.

3. Select Site Login Options.

Each setting has considerations in terms of lead capture and lead quality. Generally speaking, the more restrictive the setting (i.e. the fewer search features you make available before you require registration), the greater the lead capture rate as a function of your overall traffic, though there is often a corresponding drop in lead quality. We will go deeper into this discussion next week.

The settings below are available to all WolfNet IDX subscribers. Included is a brief summary and a rating Low to High in terms of site restrictiveness. Low means more search options without having to register, while high means registration is required for more options. By default, all settings are disabled, which is the lowest setting in terms of site restrictiveness. This means registration is only required to save Favorites, or to use the SearchSaver for automated email updates on new listings. The settings are:

Login Required to view address - If enabled, addresses will only be shown when the user is logged in.  Can be used in conjunction with other settings (Low to Medium)

Front Page Login Required - Requires login before the user enters their search criteria. (High)

Search Results Login Required - If enabled, prompts login after the user clicks "Search." (High)

Login Required to view details - If enabled, the detail page will only be shown when the user is logged in. This setting also includes the option to permit a specified number of listing detail views prior to requiring registration (Use the "Allow n Detail Views" setting). This gives the visitor a chance to see a few listings and assess the value of the search before registering. (Low: more than 5 views allowed, Medium: 3-5 views, High: less than 3)

Login Required to view remarks - If enabled, the remarks of a property will only be shown when the user is logged in. Can be used in conjunction with other settings. (Low to Medium)

Next week, we'll go a little deeper and discuss what you should consider before enabling your settings. In the meantime, if you are a WolfNet IDX customer, we would welcome your comments on what settings have worked best for you.

The Tip of the Week blog posts every Friday morning. Each Post is labeled "Easy," "Intermediate," or "Expert" based on the concept being discussed.
