Unique Offline Advertising Strategies-Setting Yourself Apart

By

Unique Offline Advertising Strategies and Setting Myself Apart is something I think about on a daily basis. Back and forth, back and forth you hear the constant argument of is paper dead. Will offline advertising in magazines/newspapers/flyers ever make a Realtor money again? Sure, it'll make you some money. Just not the money it would have made you years ago. You'd have to be buried twenty feet in the sand to not realize the effects that the Internet has had on advertising and marketing. Everybody who's anybody is all over the Internet and using it's powers to advertise and reach people all over the world.

All of this is great and as a Realtor I use the tools at hand to make sure people in the area in which I sell know my name and my brand. I've only been doing this about 5 months and when I walk into the grocery store, restaurants, or movie theater I'm assured someone in there will call me Marge (even though I go by Margie) because that is what I dubbed myself, Marge at Large. Even still, I want more.

Problem? Just a bit. Little thing called money. It's great that people know my name when I walk in somewhere but so far that hasn't fiscally paid off. It will. It will just take time. Until then, I have to find ways to continue to market myself that do not cost a lot of money but are equally as effective. In making these attempts I hope to assure anyone that I come in contact with that I will work very hard for you.

That being said, the Masters is taking place in Augusta this week and Augusta is about an hour from where I live. Due to the incredible golf in the area, Lake Oconee is hopping and there is lots going on. Months ago I started thinking about what I could do to make sure I reached as many people as possible this week. There is a major highway that runs right from where I live to I-20 which is the interstate every single person in town will travel in order to go to the tournament. So yesterday I spent about four hours and used up 45 cans of spray paint to create a unique offline advertisement for myself along the highway!

Will it pay off? I hope so! If willing to share, what are some interesting things you've done to market yourself in your particular area?

OK, that got my attention: "MargeAtLarge" is certainly catchy and what a way to invite curiosity! I love your creative thinking.

Margie you must keep us posted on how that works out! Very interesting and creative for sure.  I've never even thought about something like that - ever.  You are very unique!

Beth & Anna- thanks so much! Halfway through the spray painting I thought to myself "what in the heck am I doing!?" but it's drawn quite a bit of traffic to my website in the past 24 hours and I've received countless emails from people in my area, including other coworkers, saying what a great idea. Maybe not immediately but perhaps one day it'll make someone think of me when they're ready to buy or sell!

Thanks Alan! Put those up on Sunday and they've generated a ton of traffic to my website and plenty of people stopping me to say they saw them so it was worth the time and effort : )

Margie- Marge at Large - I love it - it's got to be something that people will remember.  Great idea and I'm also interested to see how this unique marketing idea works out for you.  You go girl!  It's all about getting your name out there and keeping it out there.

Sandy-I'll be sure to let everybody who has asked know if anything comes of the idea. So far I've had TONS of people asking me about it. Ran into the guy whose house they are in front of last night and he said "you have any idea how many d#$% people have asked me about those things!?" I couldn't help but smile!

Margie, Wow!! What an amazing talking billboard you have there and what a brainstorm!! I hope you get tons of hits to your website and even if you get one lead that closes it will more than pay for the 45 cans of paint!! Good luck. Am suggesting for a feature! With this kind of thinking you won't be a newbie for long!

Thank you Barb! Big week here on the lake so I had to think outside the box to get my name out. Have had TONS of verbal traffic around town and it's definitely amped up the hits on my site so like you said, even if it's months from now, one sell makes it worth it!

Dear Margie, here is one for you. if you think outside the square box, I know you will do it! send me pictures when you do so. And by the way, see the virtual tour of how we made these structures in front of our house. In the month of October alone we received 32,145 hits on our web site... that is about 1 hit every 49 seconds...? FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH! take a look and tell me what you think: We built a LARGER THAN LIFE SKELETON BIKER FOR HALLOWEEN THAT BECOME A SANTA ON A BIKE FOR CHRISTMAS

Antonio- in case you don't see the comment I left on the post, this idea is beyond fantastic! I live in a condo right now but you better bet I'm going to capitalize on an idea like this as soon as I have my own yard. With the tv interview, the newspapers, and the hits to your site I would say it was worth the time and money. I'm hoping the hay bale idea will do the same for me. I'm already plotting my plan for next years Masters!

Margie... I found you through Craig's highlight of your video blog.  Great job with the video, and awesome marketing technique with the bales of hay!  I've no doubt of your success - you're too creative. Good luck.

Peggy- I need to send Craig a fruit basket or something : )  His mention of my video has brought a lot of traffic to my AR account and I'm super appreciative! You liked the bales of hay, huh? They got a lot of attention in the week and a half that they were by the highway. I'm hoping one day it will make someone think of me when it comes time to buy or sell! Thanks for the kind words!
