Watch out for potential bogus mailing

By
Real Estate Agent with The Berkshire Group

Today in the mail, I received two very important looking envelopes which, in my opinion, is a potential bogus mailing. The return address was from "Corporate Controllers Unit" with a distinguishing looking logo. The one, single sheet of paper was advising Corporations (LLC, Sub-S, etc) that they must file a Periodic Report and failure to do so would result in penalty fees, etc.

For ONLY $225/yr., they would make sure that your form is submitted in a timely manner. Well, it just so happens, I had received about a week ago a notice from the Secretary of State letting me know that my annual report was due the first part of May. I immediately went online, took 2 minutes, paid my $10 and was done. Beginning in January, 2012, these notice postcards will no longer be sent, but you can sign up for a free email notice, which I did.  ALSO, those hefty penalties that I was warned about totalled a whopping $40.  So, let me get this straight, I can do it myself for $10 or worst case scenario, $50, or I can pay someone else $225/yr.

I hope the word gets out quickly before anyone sends in a check.

Lots of companies mailing similar offers out there. Usually they are required to note it is not an invoice but a solicitation of services - you have to really read the entire document to find the disclaimer though.

I received one too. Saw this on the news as well.

Glad the word is getting out.

Thanks
