REALTOR ASSOCIATION TRYING TO BRING SANITY TO SHORT SALE MARKET

The California Association of Realtors President, Beth Peerce, released a letter Monday in regard to efforts undertaken by CAR to help homeowners who are having trouble making their mortgage payments and to help agents who are trying to assist those homeowners. The thrust was in regard to short sales.

So many of our sales are short sales and the short sale market is so filled with confusion that CAR has undertaken to help agents and homeowners. Is it self-serving? Of course, but isn't that what we want our trade association to do? We expect CAR to help us to be successful. At the same time, the better we can perform in the short sale arena the better we can serve our home owner clients and the better we can help our short sale buyers.

CAR has set up a new website www.shortsalescalifornia.org to help CAR members and consumers keep up to date with the latest developments in the short sale arena. I tried to access the website and got back a notification that basically told me that CAR still has some work to do in order to make the site available as advertised. I am sure that will happen. It is too important not to!

Realtors can log on to access Q & As, webinars about short sales, and links to related content of value.

The consumer section is designed to provide information to homeowners who are in danger of losing their homes.

I am looking forward to checking it out when the technical glitches have been overcome. We all know that the distressed property market will be with us for some time to come. The better equipped we are to deal with it, the more successful we will be because we will be better able to serve our clients.

John,

I first read about this about a month ago and it was an interesting read.

It will be interesting to see how all the CAR suggestions get applied.

If this was happening in Washington State I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for the outcome.

Keep us posted on how this works itself out.

I went to that website to see if a consumer could find a Sacramento short sale agent in Sacramento, and there wasn't even a category for short sale agent under specialty. This is what consumers want. Why have a consumer button without consumer information on how to find an agent? Even if it's just by city and specialty. You can find an agent on Active Rain easier than you can find an agent who specializes in short sales on C.A.R.'s short sale website.

Art,

The problem is not local. Washington State, California and all states have the same problem with short sales. Lack of uniformity with the lenders and constantly changing criteria are only two areas that make short sale challenging for sellers, buyers and Realtors.

Yes, Elizabeth, CAR has quite a ways to go the make the new site as relevant as it needs to be. I am sure they are aware of that. Input from agents will help them to get on the right track.

Still...I find it encouraging that CAR is taking steps to help both consumers and Realtors find needed information to better handle the short sale dominated market in which we find ourselves.
