Gordon is one of the largest townships—or simply “town” as we say in Wisconsin—in Douglas County. The village of Gordon is located in the southern part of the county, at the intersection of Hwy 53 and Cty Rd Y, or where the Eau Claire and St Croix Rivers meet, just upstream from the Gordon/St Croix Flowage. The Gordon/St Croix Flowage is the largest lake in the county at 1913 acres.
Gordon was founded in 1860 by Antoine Guerdon of the LaPointe Trading Post on Lake Superior. At the spot where the Eau Claire River empties into the larger St Croix, Guerdon, or later Gordon, decided to establish a trading post here to accommodate the Native American tribes who trapped and hunted in the valley of Two Rivers. An increasing demand for lumber was another reason the trading post was established here.
Gordon Good Neighbor Days, held every year at the July 4th holiday, says it all about the friendly atmosphere of this community. Gordon is renowned for its world-class fireworks display during Good Neighbor Days.
