Are you ready for those unexpected days?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with WHISPERING PINES REALTY 20398180

Spring can be a real unexpected weather driven time.  Just today the severe storms in the south east devastated some communities and brought heart ache to  many families.

Today, over 1300 storm warniings were put out.

But, Let's not concentrate on the bad.  Lets look at how prepared you are for a disasster or more like how UNPREPARED you are.

If disaster hits could you survive for a week without help.  How about 3-4 days?  One day?

Let's look at some things you need to have to be prepared.

A GOOD flashlight with extra batteries.
Several gallons of fresh drinking water.
Canned food for several days to a week.
Dried foods.  High protein foods like dried nuts and fruits.
Clean clothes.  You will feel better during the tough times if you can wear clean clothing.
A GOOD first aid kit.
A battery Powered Radio.   Now days, you can buy the crank up radios and flashlights.

This list if for one person.  It is just a partial list.  But if there are 2 of yo in the house...double the supplies.  If there are 3, triple the supplies and so on.

It takes so little to be prepared, but it can save your life or the lives of your family.

Contact you local Sheriffs office or disaster control team for a more complete list for your area.

This is excellent advice. The wind blew really hard here last night and I was expecting the lights to go out, but luckily we got off easy and the electricity stayed on.

I have all the things you recommended. I also have two butane cooking elements that can be used indoors, as well as a small butane space heater.

Good morning William,

This is good advice especially now as we are moving into the uncertain times of Spring.

Bill, great reminder for everyone.  not many people have even a gallon of water.

Bill, I have not thought about it, but you are right.  I need to think more about what would happen with all the livestock we have also.

This is a short list for sure.  I have all the above both at home and even at my cabin.  Disaster can happen anywhere.  I even have a gas generator and 25 gallons of gas to run it with which I rotate to keep fresh.

I have emergency plans for weather and for fire.  We have all of our important information both in a safety deposit box and in relatives possession in case a bank isn't open for a couple of days.

We also have a small stash of cash that we can access in case of an emergency.

It is easier to be prepared than to play catchup .
