If you are in this business long enough, it was bound to happen. I got to ask someone for The Kitchen Sink in a deal. Here is what happened.
I have had a listing for a long time, a wonderful home in a local historic district. All homes have 5 structural systems (foundation, roof, wiring, plumbing, heating). On this house, all 5 are compromised or missing. How about that? A buyer has been identified, a cash buyer who will be bring this home back to its former glory (one hopes). The ink on the contract has dried, the survey ordered, the time for the closing established.
Then, several days ago, my client phoned. She has lived in this home for almost 40 years. It has been the focus of her large family for all that time. About 20 years ago, the family remodeled the kitchen. Part of that remodel included the installation of a commercial grade 3 basin stainless steel sink. My client said "if the buyer is going to gut this kitchen, is there any way they might let me keep my sink?" I told her I would go find out.
Looks like they are going to let her have it. I may have to go over there with my wrecking bar and help salvage it out just to have the Story Rights. Being able to say that I not only asked for the sink but I helped remove it...well...it adds the perfect finish to the story!
