ACUPUNCTURE - and appetite control

Appetite is your body’s urge to eat, namely to satiate hunger, and is a trait shared by most species of higher life forms. There are many disorders that are directly linked to appetite, including anorexia, bulimia, overeating and binge eating. The region of the brain that controls appetite is called the hypothalamus.

Your appetite is regulated by a number of physical and mental factors including the digestive tract and the central nervous system. When these items aren’t functioning correctly, a dysfunction of appetite occurs, either under eating (anorexia nervosa) or overeating (polyphaglia). The dangers presented by these conditions include ingesting either too much or too little nutrition, both of which can pose life-threatening health dangers.

Acupuncture is used to help correct the appetite in a weight loss program. Point sites for appetite control are found on the external ear, as well as odd places like the feet, or hands, or even the abdomen. Upper back point sites may be chosen. Treatments often include other considerations such as metabolism improvements, elimination of fats and fluids, as well as improved diet and exercise advice. Emotional aspects that underlie can also be addressed with acupuncture. The body has a history that it subconsciously remembers and that can affect it’s ability to be optimally functioning and healthy. Acupuncture theory can recognize some signs to that history, and how the body is currently affected, and then chose appropriate point sites to give improvement.

So what does the treatment involve? Can you tell me a little more how it works. Is this a one time treatment, or an ongoing long-term program?

Don- some things are only one treatment, don't tell Debbie.  Actually I have seen appetite control work really wel land last nicely with only one treatment. Metabolism boosting and fat loss takes more work.

Ya gotta do the other stuff too, exercise, diet awareness... etc.

How much weight to loose? that will also affect the program, as well as the reasons for gaining in the first place.

John=- Thanks for looking, there are plenty of good acupuncturists in California... It is smart to start the day with protein, and not so much carbs. That will give you lasting energy , and not support the carbo tract with it's resultant blood sugar swings. Athletes get away with more carbs that desk jockeys. A great salad at lunch, and only protein after 7 pm. Lots of water. So many people are de-hydrated and don't know it.

try cutting out dairy first. let me know how it goes.
