Rearing Horse by Don Green in middle of a construction zone

"Rearing Horse Fountain"

On a walk last weekend, I spotted this rearing stallion in the middle of a construction site.

In 1978, Don Green, a Colorado Springs artist, was commissioned to sculpt the rearing stallion that is currently found between Centennial Hall and the Pikes Peak Fine Arts Center in  downtown Colorado Springs.   This sculpture was the first of his many sculptures that can be found in Colorado Springs.

In 2009, a large utility project necessitated the need to move the sculpture.  It was decided that the horse should be moved from the back side of Centennial Hall to the front side of the building.   In time, the stallion will be surrounded by a nice court yard.

This is very interesting where this stallion sculpture is located. Hopefully Sondra it will look more pleasing in its surroundings over time. Kind of a hidden gem right now. We have the running Mustangs sculpture in Las Colinas in a fountain in Irving but this artwork is too good to go unnoticed. I see the Porta Potty in the first picture attracted you to this site : )

Very nice post and pictures.  SO much nicer than the evil demon of a horse that graces DIA in Denver that killed the sculptor when it fell on him, and his son ended up finishing the project.  This horse deserves a place of honor.  It will be very interesting to see what place of beauty he ends up in.  Thanks for sharing!

Sondra, That certainly isn't what you expect to see in a construction site.  I hope you show us photos after the work is done.I always enjoy seeing something unusual like this post.

Thank you all for your comments.  I too am looking forward to seeing the horse when it isn't surrounded by construction.  Mimi, while trying to research this horse, I read about the one at the airport that you mentioned.  A lot of people share your feelings about the one outside the Denver airport being evil.

I loved this gem in the middle of chaos. Great perspective with this shot, Miss Sondra. I love your "take" on things. Seen like a true master of the camera...with a different viewpoint--which is the key to being a great photographer.

How interesting that the stallion, the equivalent of one horsepower, is in the midst of that construction site, where that machinery has many, many horsepower! Quite an interesting picture composition.

Hi Sondra,

That is a cool picture - so much going on in the foreground and backdrop.  It is a busy world we live in.

Hi Sondra, You captured a very interesting perspective with the Stallion in the middle of the construction site. I hope you will show the final place where the Stallion ends up with the Hall in the background. Well done!

Oh, today is April 8 and this post of yours is from April 6. Where are you? Are you out enjoying yourself, riding horses out in the beautiful boondocks?

That rearing horse looks pretty big. I know horses are supposed to be friendly, but I’m deathly scared of them since they are so much bigger than me.
