Glenn Beck Show to Exit by Year End

Perhaps I wasn't watching, but I was surprised by the announcement by Glen Beck and Fox management that his current daily political program on Fox will come to a close by the end of the year.

I have been a fan of Beck for a number of years as a radio personality and later as a television commentator.  His programming on Fox has been provocative, edgy, entertaining and in my view, insightful.  He has presented the big picture and has been able to connect the dots on historic and current political movements in this country.  I value his presentations and his point of view.

He is passionate about his beliefs and occasionally used confrontational language that allowed the left to criticize his statements.  But the left will celebrate his departure and I regret that the situation will give aid and comfort to people that, in my opinion, are harming this country.

I have no doubt that Glenn will reformat his content for other delivery channels and continue to irritate the left and bring the truth to his viewers.  Both Glenn and Roger Ailes,  Fox News Chairman, said that Glenn will continue to provide projects and specials for the Fox organization.

I too have enjoyed his program and was sad to hear it would end.  Sometimes it is too upsetting and you just can't absorb any more bad news, but he is insightful and we need to know what is coming.

Wishing he had more of a positive spin on everything!  It was a bit upsetting!

What are the specifics, to many politicians not liking what he's saying?  I rarely watched him, but when I did I was hooked

Ted,

I heard the announcement today, and also was surprised. I did not watch him a lot as time was not good for me, but I few I watched were exceptionally good.

Is it a bow to PC?

Thanks to all for stopping by.  I think all of your comments are a part of the picture for the larger populations as well.

Clearly Glenn was not frequently the bearer of good news - but in political posts these days, neither am I. Clearly he called the game the way he saw it - and certainly ruffled some PC feathers. And sometimes the program became repetitive - because the problems he was talking about were not going away.

But from the articles I have read, it may just be a matter of his ratings falling off a bit.  And a number of Fox advertisers requested not to be featured on Glenn's program because of controversy, according to the news articles.  Glenn had started meeting with Roger Ailes in January to seek another format rather than a daily program in a difficult time slot.

Glenn has always been an incredibly talented entertainer and political commentator.  I have no doubt that he will become more visible rather than less and will remain in partnership with FOX but will add additional media venues which will bring more impact to his messages when he is not constrained by the daily format.

Glenn's religious affiliations and beliefs are a strong part of his world view.  I had seen this in his early radio days and books before he began to focus on political issues.  Since many of the political questions he talks about are seen by him (correctly, I think) as corruption and morality issues, he will see a religious component in the solution.  It may not be the way I would frame my arguments but I see Glenn as completely honest, genuine and sincere in his view that God and the discipline of religion are a major part of the solution to the overwhelming problems that we all face.  Well, we are not going to get the morality message from political leaders - so, for all I know, he may be right.

I think that Glenn Beck brings a very important message to the political arena.  I believe that he takes personal and professional risks every day to speak out against powerful and entrenched forces in and out of government so that we can see and understand what he sees. He is a 21st century Paul Revere or a voice in the wilderness - take your pick.  But ignore his message at your peril.  I do not have to agree with everything he says but should carefully consider his words and the evidence that backs up his argument.  I have been a political observer for more than half a century and what I have seen in the recent years frightens me.  I believe that the mechanisms of our Constitution provide a path to safety but the lack of ethical behavior by high officials of Government is a clear and present danger to our future and the future of our children.

Thanks, Glenn, for all you do.  Thank you for the service you have already done for my Country and thank you for contributing to our political discourse with such passion and clarity. And thank you for what you will bring to the future.
