IDX - Need this in our area, how have you benefited from this technology, how did you get others onboard?

My brokerage is located in Storm Lake Iowa, we are a small rural area with 3 multiple listing services within 50 miles. Our areas overlap so a number of the brokerages belong to more than one multiple listing service, which results in multiple data entry, etc for each mls. In addition to the overlap at this point (to my knowledge) none of the mls groups participate in IDX within their membership or with other mls groups (I do have an IDX agreement with one other local broker).

I believe IDX is a huge benefit to all our customers, clients, agents and offices. IDX makes it so much easier for a consumer to find properties on line and from the NAR research we know the vast majority of buyers go online first. I know change is scary, and difficult but I firmly believe that it would be very beneficial to be internally IDXed (within the individual mls groups Broker to broker), and then when the comfort level is there maybe IDX within our area of northwest Iowa.

Any experience with this, any words of wisdom?

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Change is scary, but the change that has not been accepted in your area is over ten years old.  It must be a little frustrating. I think that the only way that you could change attitudes among the decision makers is to try to convince them to check with other associations covering largely rural areas that have accepted IDX.  Similar associations with good experiences could help change a few minds.

Many of the MN MLS associations are combining their information into a single database and eliminating the need for multiple entries.

Mike,

Thank you for the response, it is frustrating but we are slowly moving towards some change. I will contact some of the associations I am aware of that function really well with IDX. I have been in several CRS classes in MN and I keep in touch with several MN brokers.
I think the MN MLS associations combining their information into a single database is a fantastic idea. It would improve efficiency and place data in easy reach for research, especially with so many foreclosures and short sales. I would love to see some major progress and forward thinking here like you guys have experienced, but I know the idea of change is very intimidating to most people.
