It's always great to know the history about Montana. This place is so magic and beautiful....I just love to live here! I've moved to Bozeman 4 years ago and was "THE BEST CHOICE". I really like to hear the stories and to visit places where I use to watch only in movies...yes that's true!
Montana Territory came to be May 26, 1864. In the early 1860's men began to discover the areas known today as Gallatin Valley and Bozeman, MT. In the winter 1863-1864 when John Bozeman, Daniel Elliot Rouse, and William Beall met each other. These three men would be the first to stake land claims in Bozeman. Soon after others began to arrive including the Willson Brothers, William Alderson, and Walter Cooper.
What brought these men to the area? Where had they come from and what did they hope to accomplish?
People come from every where, John came from Georgia, Daniel was born in Michigan and later on he moved to Minnesota, Rouse then moved frequently over the years. He didn't have much success on travilng all over the places and decided to relocate to Three Forks,MT where he helped to lay out the town site.
It appears that Daniel was not one to remain in one place very long as he continued to move, at this time to Bozeman where he laid out a town site head4 blocks surveyed, and erected the first building within the present city limits.
This History goes over and over ....the point is doesn't matter where you come from, your dreams , the final destination is Bozeman, MT.
