Healthier eco-friendly Grass roofs?
Healthier eco-friendly Grass
roofs?
Grass roofs have been around for centuries, millennia? My home in Litchfield, CT where I lived as a kid had a complete grass roof, and a solar section facing south.
My parents were Norwegian, and the huge hunting lodge in Norway that my family owns also has a grass roof to this day. Grass insulates against heat in the summer, and cold in the winter. It absorbs water, decreases run-off (an urban problem), and refreshes the air (another urban issue).
Primary concerns here in America for installing grass roofs is the cost, as well as the codes for structural strength. Older buildings may have enough strength to carry the load, newer codes may not accommodate.
There are aesthetics benefits for rooftop grass and gardens. A growing movement is “afoot” that is green, so let your imagination go green! Growing awareness is good too.
