If you see this bird knocking on your house it's telling you something.

This is what the damage starts to look like.

This is what happens untreated see below.  The reason the woodpecker is attacking the house is it can tell there are wood destroying insects in the home i.e.carpenter ants, terminates, etc...

So true.  Now I can only figure out why some woodpeckers attack a homes metal fascia!?!?

Jon,

Hum, I'd look to see if there is any water penetration going on.  Wood destroying insects LOVE soft wet wood.  I've seen them skip a floor and attack the 2nd floor bath all due to a leaking shower stall.
