The Topanga Earth Day festival takes place over more than just one day - it will be celebrated from April 22 through April 24, 2011.
Topanga Earth Day is a celebration not to be missed. Every year, Topangans and nature lovers from all over Southern California congregate to celebrate Earth Day during a fun-filled celebration over a 3 day period. As a rehearsal for the highly celebrated Topanga Days held during Memorial Day, these 3 days are dedicated to the Earth, a subject that is near and dear to this nature-loving community.
Started 12 years ago, Topanga Earth Day has something for everyone. You will find eco-stations to expand your knowledge on the latest ways to be kinder towards our Mother Earth. Guest speakers and workshops are aligned. From tree planting to solar panels, these free workshops will interest almost everyone. I am particularly interested in checking out the one about “Alternative Architecture Building, Geodesic Domes, Tipi Building, Building and Safety”. Those with young children, please note that a children’s area will be set up to keep the junior environmentalists entertained.
Each year, artists from various horizons and genres performed for the pleasure of the crowd at the Earth Day celebration. From our local Melanie Kareem and her Belly Dancers to Prezident Brown from Jamaica, there is music for everyone.
The Topanga Earth Day festival is (appropriately) a leader in using innovative options to end the use and sales of plastic bottles. Composting, recycling, sorting are key words. All items used at the festival, from the banner to the plastic cups and cutlery are made of biodegradable materials, such as corn and sugar in the case of the plates (you probably could eat your plate too!).
The festival is a fun way to spend the weekend and at only $10 as a donation, it won’t strain your budget. And don’t forget that the Canyon has a magical way to attract you.
