The Chicken DOES Come Before The Egg... And Other Lessons In Marketing FAIL And Reputation Architecture

By
Real Estate Agent with William Raveis Real Estate

Marketing and online advertising are very important.  I love how ActiveRain is a community designed to discuss this very fact, and I pay close attention to the companies that advertise and affiliate with AR. I keep track of my online reputation and think twice before I affiliate with a given website.

PartnerFirst Short Sale Search EngineTonight I noticed an ad for a Short Sale Search Engine, sponsored by PartnerFirst.
The link took me to what seemed to be a normal landing page, asking me to fill out a free profile.
Free!  What would I have to loose here if I don't have to pay for the profile?

Then I read a little further...

Lorem Ipsum

In college I didn't major in Latin (my brother did).  Still, something looked fishy about this landing page.  It was filled with the stock gibberish filler content that iWeb and many design templates include with stock web pages.  Lorem Ipsum was repeated throughout the page.  Lorem Ipsumamet dolor sit .  They even put "Roll Over Me" in bold in English in the middle of this gibberish... What does this all mean?
Google Translate is even stumped...Google Translate

PartnerFirst made the investment in advertising to our community.  But you would think that they would FINISH their web page BEFORE spending all this money on marketing.  Why would I

Raincamp Atlantic City focused on Reputation Architecture. Why should I put my name & profile on an incomplete website?  What does that do for my personal reputation?  And should I Lorem Ipsum or just mind my own business?

Guess they forgot to spell check their content.  Good thing you know how to read. Thanks for sharing.  I'll skip this deal.

Janet - This goes way beyond spell check.  They didn't fill anything out - even the headers were in i-Latin/Gibberish.

I don't know what their advertising budget looks like, but they could have waited until the website was finished.

In the 4 weeks since I posted this, the company has not yet updated their site.  The entire contents are gibberish.  Yet I see their ads running daily when I'm on Active Rain.  So they continue to spend marketing dollars, but I doubt their conversion rate is high.  Many lessons to be learned here.
