Another Update on the Misguided, Hapless HAHA

Yes, I am from Jersey and I am going to blog about HAFA...not Jimmy Hoffa but HAFA HAFA! LOL HAFA has largely escaped the sights of Republican members of Congress targeting current programs that they believe are draining taxpayer money and doing little, if anything, to help homeowners. It appears that the Treasury believes that business will continue as usual at least within HAFA, and some politicians have called other foreclosure-aid program termination bills “dead in the water” as the president has promised to veto any such bills that make it through both houses of Congress.

Thanks to new updates to policy guidelines for the Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternative (HAFA) program, servicers must provide much more feedback and transparency during the decision process and some agencies will be permitted to buy HAFA homes and rent or flip them back to the original owner. The Treasury has established directives to bring about these changes in June of this year, but is in the process of encouraging servicers to being to implement required changes immediately rather than waiting. According to the new rules, servicers must provide written confirmation of receipt of request for short sale or deed-in-lieu within 10 days of receipt and must provide an answer or a status notice and explanation within 45 days of receipt. Furthermore, certain non-profit agencies will be exempt from the “arms-length” rules in the system and will be permitted to rent or sell properties back to the original owners following the HAFA negotiations.

My question?? What is the point, HAFA has been a cataclysmic disaster and has helped a small fraction of the home owners that it was supposed to help....all at a cost of BILLIONS to tax payers...has la

Congress and DC doesn't discriminate. They pass hundreds of bills padding the pockets of, not constituents, no, but campaign contributors. been going on forever. To solve this problem, follow the money. Who made out from HAFA?

Sorry, but I neglected to mention this...but if you're from Jersey, keep that a secret.

I lived in Jersey for two years. I never tell anyone.

Kidding, of course. Sort of. Kidding. I loved Jersey.

What I don't get is why the HAFA short sale program cannot be used if a loan is owned by Freddie or Fannie. HAFA is a government program and Freddie and Fannie are the government. The HAMP and HAFA programs haven't helped anyone I know. I think HAMP and HAFA are fiction.

You are correct the HAFA is and has been a cataclysmic failure.  In fact all of the programs to help the consumers have failed and only the bank get money and help.

What do you think Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Ben Franklin, James Madison, et al., would say about all of this?

I blogged about this months ago....how is it that loan mods get denied because an "investor", who is really the federal government vis a vis the troubled twins of financial disaster, Fannie and Freddie, NOT participate in a FEDERAL program to aid home owners that TAXPAYERS are paying for???
