What the heck are those little boxes with dots???

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate

Northern Neck of VAI've recently had several people ask me what those little black boxes are for and what are you supposed to do with them.   Have you been noticing them, too?   Here is an example:

QR Code               It is called a QR Code.  This code, when scanned with your smart phone, contains information (in this case) about a waterfront listing I have for sale at 268 Flag Pond Lane, Heathsville, VA .

QR is short for "Quick Response".  If you have a smart phone with a camera, just download the FREE application for a Bar Code Reader or QR Code Reader.  After the bar code reader is installed on your phone, you can scan bar codes and QR codes for information such as a web site link, text information, or other data.

Questions about Waterfront Real Estate in Northern Neck? The QR Codes look very similar but each one contains different bits of information.

Try this one    Northern Neck Waterfront for Sale     This QR Code will take you to a website link containing listing information on a waterfront listing at 52 Swann Court, Reedville, VA.      Some QR Codes even point to YouTube videos.

There are a number of free QR Code generator site on the Internet:                                                  http://qrcode.kaywa.com            http://beqrious.com/generator     and http://goo.gl

If you post your listings to Postlets, you can use the Postlets url to generate the QR code easily at vyoo.it    It's kinda fun, for sure.

I really think that QR codes are the next big thing for promoting real estate. It just hasn't quite caught on enough yet. Thanks for the post!

I limit my us of QR codes to a select few purposes but have noticed many AR members posting them on their blogs and other sites. For me, I feel like I am stealing traffic away from my blog and ultimately my website by using them there. I wish you much success with them.

Yvonne, these QR Codes are easy to generate, but sure wish they were less ugly.

Hi Yvonne...I'm wondering myself how many in the public realize what they are and how easy it is to read them.  I have my web site QR code on my new yard signs.  Hope they help.

It looks like you're helping some members also.

Do you have a way to track how many times they are used?
