What is Eatonville? Eatonville is located at the corner of 14th and V Street, across from Busboys and Poets. I'm a big fan of Busboys and Poets, like everyone in Washington DC, so I decided to try Eatonville since it's the same owner, Andy Shallal.
The Inside & Menu I immediately liked the decor of huge murals dedicated author Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes influenced by the early 1900's. "Eatonville is named for Hurston’s Florida hometown and the country’s first, post-Civil War, African American incorporated town and the focal point in her most famous work, Their Eyes Were Watching God." (Eatonville) The restaurant has two levels with a small outdoor patio to accommodate large groups.
Before going to Eatonville, many of my friends had rave reviews about the food and it's southern style home cooked flavor. Needless to say, that is a welcomed change from the myriad of Ethiopian and Thai restaurants along the 14th Street/U Street corridors. I was not disappointed, the food was great and the pricing is reasonable. I highly encourage any visitors and/or residents to try Eatonville, especially if you like southern food and seafood.
