Monday Morning Motivation.........

In this business it takes time to be really good – and by that time you are obsolete.

~ Cher ~

There have been times, as I go through each day that I have wondered how long it Rusty Mailboxtakes to be really, really good in this business.  The one thing that I have come to understand is, it takes a lot of time invested in my own growth and development to be really good.

If I would be given the choice I would take really good over being obsolete.   I don’t like the thought of being of no use to anyone.

Stop and think about some of the old brands that are no longer around.  Could it be that they became obsolete because they didn’t stay in touch or keep up with changing wants, needs and trends?

With the continual changes that our profession will see not only now but in the future it will pay to continue to grow and develop.  I’m not getting any younger ya know.

Interesting --- While I can absolutely see where you are going with this, I have to first say that when I read's Cher's quote it was not very uplifting. But then again when I thought about it, it was very true about cheer either. For me, I think about how I devoted my entire youth for training for the olympics in gymnastics --- I didn't make it, but many of my teammates did. In 1980 Tracee Talavera won the Olympic trials and had the very real possibility of being the first American gold medalist in an Olympics in the sport. Jimmy Carter decided we should not go to Moscow that year. tracee hung onto 1984- was part of a medaling team, but the gold medL dazzler was Mary Lou retton. Tracee was "obsolete". Not by anything she could control, but by the simple process of aging. The point I am making is when you age is a factor, like gymnastics, or entertaining, obsolete is very real. And this quote is actually inspiring, when i realize that cher HAS overcome. She first entertained me when I was 10 years old, and just last month I watched Burlesque 3 times with my daughter in one weekend (Wonder if my daughter will still be watching Christina Aguilera in 30 years? :)). From the real estate standpoint - this was great for me to read. I only got into the business in 2007 and in that year, my broker suggested that I look to the "established" realtors in my brokerage to grasp on to the " basics of real estate transactions". You can imagine how challenging this could be when you finally master realtor bob's kick ass listing presentation and when you go to ask him about it, he admits that after 12 years, he's canning it. It didn't take long for me realize that even the process of being a "newbie" was changing. So while I have spent nearly 4 years teaching myself, by reading, listening and doing, and even though I know the path to "really good" has quite a bit more mileage to it....I will never settle for obsolete! Our business doesn't require we look good in a leotard or have the energy of a puppy.... It's all in our attitude - and we all have a fair shake on that one! Go get 'em, agents!

Love the quote... good thing I'm a newbie later in life.  That way I won't be obsolete until I'm retired....   LOL
