No one likes change ...especially the older they get. But the new numbering of the Maine I-95 exits makes sense.
You have exits now that reflect how many miles into Maine you are. From Kittery's mile one to Houlton Maine's town exit 302 and airport exit on Canadian border of New Brunswick Canada of 305.
The one for the Houlton Maine International Airport, Industrial Park.
Your last chance in Maine to turn around before sailing over the rumble strips. By the US Customs / Immigration Station and rolling down the window. In Benedicta Maine, only one ramp. You can hit the little town in Aroostok County heading north by swerving right with the blinker on, as you slow down to ramp speed.
But to get back on in Benedicta Maine, not going to happen.
Yet.
This north bound I-95 exit was slow in the making, the twin will probably not be priority one either.
Unless gold, oil, something pretty unique like uranium is discovered in the hills of Benedicta, Maine.
Or maybe Baxter State Park becomes a national listing. Stepping up the visits, traffic. For motorists to get to the north entrance up Rt 11, into Patten Maine. To start the hike up Mt Katahdin, other hills, bumps to scale up and down.
Lucky to be at the beginning where the Trans Canada joins Houlton Maine's start of the Interstate 95 transportation system.
The one that ends up at the tip of Florida. Waiting for a bridge to Cuba, Puerto Rico, the other islands. Interstate 95 makes is so so easy to zip to, through Maine, Vacationland.
