Meridian Joint School District #2~ North Star Charter School

Every week on Thursday afternoons I volunteer at Meridian's Joint School District #2's North Star Charter School in Eagle, IDAHO.  I love spending my weekly afternoon time with Ms. Maureen Miley's 1st grade class.  The enthusiasm that these kids have for learning is so apparent and it is so refreshing to experience the zest for life these youths exhibit.   I have seen the transformation that these children have made throughout the year.  I work directly with the children on a writing/journal rotation.  What amazing strides and milestones have been reached!  At the beginning of the year, it seemed that every child struggled and stumbled with each word, word sound and phrase.  Now that we are nearing the end of the school year, most of the kids are writing pages of content with very impressive usage of their phonics knowledge and, of course, imagination.  I must say, when I reflect on my own 1st grade education, many years ago now, I am positive that I was not journaling.  A big thank-you to Ms. Miley and the rest of the teachers and staff at North Star Charter School for the excellent education that our children are receiving!  I am so proud that North Star is a part of the community that we live in.
