This was taken at the farm up the street from my house where the circus and movie animals are kept.  I believe these are Alpacas.  I took this one right before the winter set in last year.  Who knew at that time what a tough winter we were in for and that we would still be having snow in April!

Cute photo, Debra.  When I read some of the comments, I had more questions and learned something.  Namely, I don't know the difference between alpacas and llamas either.  I think alpacas may be woolier.  I also hadn't contemplated that they may be related to the camel, but when I look at them, I can see a resemblance in the head.

Howdy and evening to you Debra

Debra, this sure is a mighty fine photo of those two Alpacas!!!
There are two different alpacas types, the suri and the huacaya. The suri has fiber that grows quite long and forms silky, pencil-like locks. The huacaya has a shorter, dense, crimpy fleece, giving it a very woolly appearance.

Your mighty fine blog post has been Featured in the Wild Wednesday group!!!

Have a good one

Be sure the brush has a long handle - they can be mean. Friends had a couple of them - went to the corral to watch them and they spit all over us.  Stay back.

I like alpacas, there fur is so, so soft. But, when I look at them, I always think they look like they are wearing a toupee.

Wanda, John, Patricia, Carl & Ceil, Hannah, Gary, Ed, Ted, Sharon, Laura, Joshua & Mary-Thank you for stopping by today and commenting.  I am glad you enjoyed the photo as much as I did!

Patty-  :D  That explains all of them looking so tidy this week!  (LMAO)

Myrl-I don't know too much about them either.  I do know that Llamas are much bigger than Alpacas.  I think they both spit.  LOL  Both are raised around here and are supposed to be big money makers.

Dale-THANK YOU!!  I didn't know about the different types.  Thanks for the info!

Mel-I knew they could spit but I have never seen one do it.  I have seen Camels and Llamas do it plenty of times.  I will have to remind myself that about the Alpacas!.

William-I took this shot kind of spur of the moment because he kept turning away and got lucky.  :-)

Jennifer-I never made it to Raincamp.  :-(  BOO HOOO!

Todd-After I read this I had to go back up and look at the picture.  I will never be able to look at an Alpaca again with out cracking up!  Thanks for that!!!!  I love it!
