Gary Keller Sounds Off

As many may have seen, last week on the today show Jim Kramer spouted off about the housing market as a whole.  Here's what Gary Keller, co-founder of Keller Williams Realty had to say!

TOP STORY: Gary Keller: The only market that matters is yours!

Last week on the Today Show, during a segment on the national real estate market, CNBC's Jim Kramer uncompromisingly stated, "now is the absolute worst time to buy!"

Concerned that remarks such as these from so-called experts might be pushing potential buyers to the sidelines?

Here's what Gary Keller, co-founder and chairman of Keller Williams Realty has to say about waiting out the current market:

First, residential real estate is not a national market product - it is a local one. To say from a national position that this is either a good time or a bad time to buy real estate is like saying the national forecast for the U.S. today is 92 degrees - it is a useless and irrelevant perspective. What is happening in your local market is all that matters.

Second, trying to predict when it is a good time to buy, or not, means you're trying to time the market. Staying on the sidelines is the surest way for most people to never time anything correctly.

Last, and maybe most important - there are always two markets in every market. There is the market of properties that are good buys and there is the market of properties that are not a good buys. Interestingly enough, this is true in either buyer or seller markets. To categorically say that this is the time to buy or not is absolutely ignoring the fact that every market really has two markets inside it.

Feel free to share with your buyers that are sitting on the fence!  Love the weather forecast analogy.

News commentators have to come up with some nonsense to say every single day. Sometimes, they just don't think through their words first! Keller is right. It's all localalized. In every market, there are good and bad buys. Keep the faith.

Jim kramer should keep his amateur unfounded comments to himself.  I believe totally in the local market theory.  From up here in Canada - all we here is the media. Maybe the media could just focus on the good news fronts for a change, and try to get some optimistic momentum going.

Michael -  You're absolutely right!  I suppose it's their job to cause drama!  Thanks for stopping by.

Hey Valorie - Thanks for commenting!  I love when Gary Keller explains it very simply!!

Paul - That would be nice, but I don't think they like reporting the good news.  It makes for a boring story, they'd prefer drama!!!  Thanks for commenting!

This is a great quote from Gary Keller.  Jim Cramer made an odd blanket statement last week, but unfortunately he has a large audience.  I am constantly explaining to my neighbors, friends, even to other Realtor, that while the national market is down, things locally are still strong.  Thanks for sharing this, Sandy!

Jason - I am not a Cramer fan in fact that was the first time I'd heard him speak and probably the last.  He's quite obnoxious and for someone who dabbles in stocks to make such a blanket statement about real estate makes me think he doesn't really think before he opens his mouth.  Feel free to share Gary Keller's statement with those you need to, to help get your point across.  Heck it even helps that he's in your market!  Have a Great Day!

Jennifer - Yes they do, I suppose that's why we are both at KW!!

Sandy, nice Post.

That was a wonderful comment by Gary Keller, now we have to get the information out to the general public. I would love to see Mr. Keller go on 60 minutes or The Today Show and discuss real estate.

Jason sounds great!  Glad to have provided something useful!

Frank wouldn't that be awesome!  Maybe if we all write the today show, they'll have him come in.  I think if they are going to put one side on they ought to allow someone who knows what they are talking about refute his claims!  Thanks for commenting and I'm glad you liked the post!
