This blog by Steve starts to make the case for term limits. I do not agree with term limits, but I do think it is great food for thought. Take a read.

For those maintaining that we should have term limits in Congress, a Constitutional Amendment has been proposed in the Senate. We'll have to see if get a hearing or moves along from here.

Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina and 10 other Republican Senators have proposed limits of 6 years for Representatives (3 terms of 2 years) and 12 years for Senators (2 terms of 6 years). Presumably a person could still serve in both bodies for the maximum proposed.

Originally people served a few years and then went back home to pursue their family or business. Sometime over the pass 60 years or so, serving in Congress became a lifetime career. There have been many people serving more than 30 years each.

It is expected that a companion bill will be introduced in the House.

This may not be a perfect solution, but one poll indicates that 78% of Americans support Congressional term limits.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Well, it would give more unqualified people an opportunity to become lobbying apprentices, which is the direction many short termers seem to take.  Is there a shortage of lobbyists in Washington?  I wonder if the amendment would preclude someone from changing districts or states and starting the calendar over again.
