North Georgia Blue Ridge Area Hiking Trails, Aska Adventure Trails, Outdoor Adventure, North Georgia Mountains

North Georgia is home to some of the most legendary hiking trails in the United States.  Below is a list of trails found throughout Fannin and Gilmer Counties for beginners and experts alike.  Be prepared for the wilderness and respect the law of the forest, "leave no trace" (pack out all of your trash).  If you build a fire, never leave it unattended and make sure, make absolutely sure the fire is out when you leave.  Use caution around waterfalls where moss covered rocks are wet and slippery. Always stay on marked trails. Vegetation in the forests is fragile and stepping on small plants causes a negative impact that lasts for years.  Visit: United States Forestry Service for more information on essentials in the wild.

These are two of my favorite hiking trails:

Aska Adventure Area - Hiking Trails

Amicalola Falls & Trails
Stunning 729 foot falls is the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. From the park to Springer Mountain is an 8.5 mile approach. Considered an easy hike.

Located approximately 21 miles from Ellijay (Gilmer County) on Hwy. 52

Fall Branch Falls
Hike about 30 minutes uphill to a beautiful double waterfall about 75 feet high surrounded by beautiful mountain laurel. An observation platform is located in front of the falls.  The Appalachian Trail begins here at the Benton MacKaye (mack-eye). Considered an easy hike.

From Blue Ridge, take Aska Road to a right onto Stanley Creek (directly in front of the Toccoa River Restaurant), go approximately 3 miles on the right to the trailhead.

Other trails to explore:

Ocoee Whitewater Center Trails crosses a 330 foot suspension bridge and is accessible for those who are physically challenged.  In Ducktown Tennessee, take US 64 west to the Ocoee Whitewater Center.

Jacks River Falls
This beautiful waterfall is the most visited, located in the Cohutta Wilderness area of Ellijay/Chatsworth, consists of 3.5 miles of rugged wilderness.  This trail is recommended for experienced hikers.  Get more information and a map from USFS.  (Photos)

Hemp Top
One of the highest points in the Cohutta Wilderness.  Get more information and a map from USFS.

Aska Trails
Year round 17 mile hiking/biking trail located in the Deep Gap portion of the Aska Trails.  Suitable for all levels of hikers but can be strenuous in portions along the route.

Swinging Bridge
Along the Benton MacKaye trail, this 260 foot suspension bridge crosses the Toccoa River.  Hwy. 60 in Morganton, go toward Dahlonega for 11.3 miles following Hwy. 60 south, go past Skeenah Mill to .7 miles to a right on FS816, turn right and follow gravel road 3 miles to parking area.  Short hike to the bridge.

Three Forks
Start a 3.7 mile hike at the junction of the Appalachian Trail and Benton MacKaye to Springer Mountain.

Springer Mountain
This is the start of the Appalachian Trail.  Begin a 2200 mile journey north to Maine.

Long Creek Falls
Aska area, Doublehead Gap.  Start out as a gradual hike alongside Long Creek to three short ascents before reaching the trail to the falls.  Considered an easy hike.
