Hickory Community Theatre
Saturday April 30, 2011
Local Hickory band and an Asheville favorite have just announced a show for Saturday April 30, 2011 in the Firemen’s Kitchen at the Hickory Community Theatre. Hickory’s own Leaving Venus and Asheville’s Uncle Mountain are sharing the bill at what is considered by many to be the most fun venue in Hickory.
Leaving Venus hails from Hickory, North Carolina, and are considered by some Indie Rock’s premier underdogs. Leaving Venus has quickly become a formidable presence in that genre, picking up a mantle that many critics say couldn’t be picked up again. The band is comprised of four somewhat demure indivduals, but whose personalities come together to generate a very unique and exciting refrain. Formed in late 2007, the group is: Chris Cornwell, Drums. Thomas Grell, Bass Guitar and Vocals. Michael Miller, Lead Guitar and Vocals, and David Spurlock, Vocals and Guitar.
Uncle Mountain features three distinct songwriters with their own styles, Ryan Furstenberg, Ryan Lassiter, and Dan Shearin steer their tunes in different directions until they've reached a destination often that they had never expected. The result is one that they are proud of both in headphones and on stage, blending the organic soul of rock and folk with lively percussion, rich harmonies and colorful textures from all of their favorite music from around the globe.
