It never fails to amaze what some builders or homeowners  will do!  Evidence of  amateur workmanship often appears on home inspection reports. Who would bother to make an offer on a property with such a blatant defect?

A good home inspection is the smartest money a buyer spends. Period.

Hi Rob, I encourage an inspection no matter what age of the house and especially new construction.  All houses need a good inspection.  Very scary pictures.

Excellent post and a reminder to all home buyers to get a home inspection as part of the home purchase process. You never know what may be found.

I will have some pictures like this after our home inspection on Wednesday. We have already noticed an issue and are taking a structural engineer along just to be sure.

Rob this is why home inspections are so important.  This would be a case wherre the listing agent should have insisted on a pre-inspection :)

Geez . . . they couldn't even BOLT anything in place?!?  Love the photos, and I think it's scary.  But as long as it's not in earthquake-ville, but stand up okay, although NOT to code.

That's ridiculous.  It looks like the cut, what appears to be, a floor joist too short.  Then, found that their CMUs wouldn't rear so the shored it up with wood wedges.  It looks like a simple jack post or and extra 4 inch block would have worked, but really, the moral of the story is get a new piece of wood and extend it to where it's supposed to, or at least make a proper column.

Thanks for sharing!  It's amazing what we come across day to day.

Home inspections are so important.  I demand them for all my clients.  Your picture illustrate that you never know what an inspector will find.  Carla, what do you mean earthquate-ville?(funny)  A good hurricane or tornado would make that part of the house collapse.
