Buffalo Grove Park District starts up their first Lacrosse Team written by Judy Greenberg and Mara Somlo, junior at Stevenson High School
The Buffalo Grove Park District is now offering its first Lacrosse team to play in the Spring season. The Buffalo Grove team consists of 20 players (ages 11-13), and practices two times a week. This new team is a mixture of experienced players and new players, and is sponsored by Lacrosse America. Lacrosse's season differs from that of Football and Hockey, allowing kids to have fun and get in shape year long. The Buffalo Grove boys are currently 1-0, having defeated Libertyville last weekend.
Parents of players said that many of the kids interest in the sport grew from the success of Stevenson High School's Lacrosse program. This year Stevenson Freshman Lacrosse was a no cut sport in order to encourage incoming Freshmen to participate.
Head Coach of the Buffalo Grove team, Frank Del Barto, uses his college playing experiences along with his Army Ranger discipline to teach the different aspects of the sport. Due to Del Barto's Army Ranger background the team name has become The Rangers. The Buffalo Grove Lacrosse season ends in June, although Lacrosse America offers year round affordable lessons and equipment.
