South Ozone Park, located in the borough of Queens, is part of Queens Community Board 10. Its
boundaries extend from Aqueduct Racetrack (westward) to the Van Wyck Expressway. Initially
developed for low cost housing in the 1900s, it is a community of single-family or two-family
homeowners and has seen a recent surge of development in housing and businesses bringing up the
neighborhoods property value.

South Ozone Park is in close proximity to John F. Kennedy International Airport, the Van Wyck
Expressway and Belt Parkway. It is conveniently located to the outer boroughs of Brooklyn, Long Island
and with the Long Island Railroad or subway to Manhattan.

Local transportation includes the Q7 bus on Rockaway Boulevard, the Q9 bus on Lincoln Street and the
Q10 bus on Lefferts Boulevard.

South Ozone Park has a very diverse population comprised of Guyanese, Trinidadians, Bangladeshis,
African Americans, Hispanics and Caucasians just to name a few.

South Ozone Parks’ main revenue comes from Rockaway Boulevard and other small businesses located
on Liberty Avenue. Many franchises are also beginning to spring up along the Avenue, encouraging their
residents to spend more in their own community.

Neighborhood schools include the diverse Catholic elementary school, Our Lady’s Catholic Academy
located on 126th Street and Rockaway Boulevard.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School located on 115th street educated grades PK-8th grade.

Vincent G. Fowler School located across from the Aqueduct Racetrack, an elementary school that
educates PK – 5th grades.

Virgil I Grissom JHS 226, a middle school named after the late astronaut is located on Rockaway
Boulevard and 122nd Street, educating grades 6 – 8th grade.

Their main trademark is Aqueduct Racetrack, has an 80,000 seat capacity and is the largest
thoroughbred racetrack in the country, where they run a public flea market in the summer months.
Aqueduct is in talks to open a casino, which they have termed “racino” by summer 2011. This will
include about 3,000 slot machines on site, which will be more convenient for gamblers that prefer to
wager on slots, they will not have to travel out-of-state.
