The Green Spot Market & Fuel is a convenience store but with a difference. Located just east of White Rock Lake, in Old Lake Highlands, they sell snacks and such just like every other convenience store. The difference? All their inventory is standard health-food-store brands. And I was told that the gasoline that they sell is a little bit green as well, having a higher ethanol content than is typical.
I had no idea. I have gone past this place over and over and would never have gone in without a native guide to take me there. I bet you didn't know that the phrase "quirky and interesting dining" was something that could be used to describe a place in Big D!
At the back of the store is a really great lunch counter. I paid $3.50 for a designer taco. That may seem like a lot, especially when put into the context of my usual fare at Fuel City, where tacos are $1.40 each. But, let me describe the tacos I had at The Green Spot. Black bean with sweet potato, asparagus and queso fresca. How about THAT? I also had a chicken taco where the chicken was succulent and flavorful and not dry at all. Can't beat that. I had 2 tacos, along with a Dr Brown soda, finished off with a health-food brand ice cream bar. Then I went back to the office with a smile on my face.
