Maverick Helicopter Tour - Las Vegas
This past weekend, some friends and I traveled down to Las Vegas. The occasion? Four of us are 1961 babies, celebrating our 50th birthday year!
Although I've been to Vegas before, I had never seen the Grand Canyon, and was anxious to see this great wonder and cross this one off my bucket list. Flying in a helicopter is quite a rush, and looking at the breathtaking view from up high was certainly something I'll never forget. To top it off, we had a great pilot, Tony, who cracked open a bottle of champagne right at the Canyon.
How will we ever top this when we turn 60?!! Maverick Helicopter Tour - Las Vegas
Heavens to murgatroid Sally, exit stage left, stage left! Sixty will require way more than a 2 hour tour. You're going to have to get much more physical to check a worthy milestone such as that off the list. Maverick may have a lunar excursion available by then which as long as they remain based out of LV will always be an excellent adventure. DO IT!
Hi Sally - Happy, happy birthday! Looks like you had a terrific celebration. The photo collage is awesome.
Sally - I love your photo collage - see it isn't just for staging - look how great this came out! I'm sending you a virtual Happy Birthday hug! I don't even have to ask if it was good!
Emily - Seriously - how did I end up at 50?!!! I guess it happens to all of us at some point. When I turn 70, I'll look back and wonder at how young 50 seems.
Jon - Ha! Too funny. I think you look very dapper in your hat! I know, don't you hate it when you're asked on some internet form to "scroll down" to your birth year, and you have to keep scrolling, and scrolling, and scrolling...
Steven - You've got to do it - it's so much fun!
Roger - I actually don't turn 50 until September, so I'm hanging on to 49 with all my might! Oh you jet setter, you. I know what you mean. My "boyfriend", who came along with us, worked in the forest industry for years, and he was saying that getting on a helicopter for him is like getting on a bus. He also said that our helicopter pilot was flying very tamely. Nearing the end of the flight, I was hoping for some loop-de-loops, but his boss was flying behind him, so no such luck!
Laura - Well, my actual birthday isn't until September, but I'm celebrating ALL YEAR!!!!! I must say, as fun as my group was, I sure missed my staging buddies. Vegas didn't seem the same without you guys. Although, the weather was a lot hotter this time around - it was 90 degrees the day we left!
Sally, that looks like it was a ton of fun. Look at you giving the thumbs-up in the pilot's seat, great picture. Perhaps on your 60ieth the four of you can climb to the top of Mt. Everest.
Kevin - Exit stage left? I know that Snagglepuss would agree with you! Ha ha ha! I like the way you think! Oh yeh, I'm going to sign up for that trip to the moon as soon as I can - I bet it will fill up quickly and 60 is only 10 years away!
Judy - Thank you, thank you! The trip was fantastic, and don't you just love these collages? I have a few more in the works...
Kristine - Thanks so much for those photo collage tutorials. I actually posted some collages here on A/R when we had the Olympics in Vancouver last year, but then I kind of forgot about the whole collage thing. It wasn't until you posted your beautiful photos in collage form that I got inspired again, so thank you! I also wasn't aware of the whole dropper thing with the borders - what a cool trick that is! Stay tuned, I have a few more on the way...
Hi Malcolm - Gotta say, this was a really exciting trip. Ok, just to clarify, I wasn't in the pilot's seat, I was sitting next to him!!!! There were actually 8 of us. Here's a photo of our group - who are all those middle aged people, anyway?!!! We all go to each other's houses for wine night on radom Fridays, and one night, someone said we should go down to Vegas to celebrate the fact that 4 of us were turning 50 this year - and the rest is history!
Sally....Happy Birthday!! Nice collage of the trip....what FUN! Enjoy your 50's...I did!
Hi Sally ~ What a wonderful way to celebrate your important milestone birthday! The canyon looks great from the air! Thanks for sharing your story and photos -- bet it was a blast!
Kathy - You know what they say... 50 is the new 25!!!!
Maureen - Flying over the Canyon was a complete blast! I was going to jam out, but decided to go for it.
David - You know the stats - flying is 10 X safer than driving, and 20 X safer than driving with you on the hills of San Fran while shooting videos!
Oh yeh, and David, this is a photo of our pilot, Tony - the view was spectacular!
This is cool way to celebrate your 50th Birthday year, Sally! I agree that you should do something good for yourself. I hope that turning 50 will not be painful LOL
I wish I could go back to 50 and create such lifelong memories! Working on my bucket list now... Thanks for the inspiration! Cheers, Wendy
Anna - I don't think I'll mind turning 50 - I feel so much more confident and sure of myself than when I was younger, so that's a definite plus.
Wendy - As long as we stay "young" in our minds, it's all good! Having a youthful attitude is the key, and I happen to know first hand that you have that!
David - He he he...
My favorite thing at the Grand Canyon was when my daughter and I rode donkeys to the bottom... OMG... it was the best day ever!!
Sheila - That's it!!! That's what I'll do when I turn 60 - thanks for the idea! ;-)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SALLY...The Pilot is Cute....did you sit on his lap...haaaa
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall.
I missed the Helicopter Ride when I went in 98, for some reason the Tree huggers has a pending rule to stop flights in the Cannon...and I went there for that purpose.
Great you see you back thanks for sharing your trip
Loveya...HAPPY EASTER
PS: it realy goes fast now...I know!!
Thanks, Fred - no, I didn't get to sit on the pilot's lap, but he did let me hold his stick shift... ;-)
What? But there aren't even any trees in the Canyon - only a bunch of cacti!!! Oh, you'll just have to go back down and take the helicopter ride - it's too much fun.
Happy Easter to you, too - hope the Easter Bunny is good to you - Love ya back!
Wow girl, you sure know how to celebrate. I've never been in a helicopter and I'm such a chicken I think I would be scared to death the whole ride. Maybe all the friends being there too would make a difference. That pilot is a cutey! Your collage is awesome, I love Picnik!
Sharon - I was pretty scared, too, as I'd also never been in a helicopter. The pilot was on his best behaviour, and the ride was perfectly smooth. My stomach didn't drop once! Also, you're right - the moral support from a big group really helps. Isn't Picnik the best?
