Tips from a Virtual Assistant

I learn so much from working with my clients. You all have such different approaches, creative ideas, & strategies that to be honest, blow my mind...

What I notice as a VA, is how many techniques I absorb from different agents. You are all brilliant. I think the more sharing that goes on in your offices, here on AR, and perhaps through osmosis by your assistants, the stronger this industry will grow.

I have gained so much professional knowledge here. So I thought I would give a little something back. Here are my tips on working with a Virtual Assistant.

Here are my tips:

  • Create a schedule with your VA. Depending on your needs, it may be a weekly or a monthly. We all know about goals and planning...
  • If you are working with a virtual assistant or any assistant working with other agents, pick their brain. Ask them what tools other clients are utilizing. They most likely won't divulge specifics, but can lead you strategically.
  • Find your focus... I have clients for whom I mainly help with their marketing efforts. I have some who I help manage their business because they are too busy. I have some smack dab in the middle. What do you need to focus on most? Where do you see yourself 6 months, a year, 10 years from now?
  • What works for you, schedule-wise? How much time do you need to devote to your profession, your family, your church, your hobbies, maybe your second job? These are all things to consider. (Believe me, I know this 1st hand...)
  • If you decide you need help, check references. You will be giving your VA personal information, and you need to know that you can trust them. Talk to current clients of theirs. Have a solid phone conversation with them. Make sure your personalities work well and you have confidence in their abilities to help you.

Of course, you know I'm going to throw my plug in... But seriously, if you need help, I'm here...

Good posts Tara!  I have also decided after spending 10 years in the real estate business, that my talents and skills are better utilized assisting other Realtors; so in 2011 I decided to start my own Virtual Assistant business specializing in helping other Realtors and solo practicing attorneys!  Best of luck to you!!
