A recent email from the Young Man From Afghanistan did not surprise me. He is giving haircuts and cooking for the group. Well, somebody has to do it! And he is probably the best at it in his group.
Here is what he had to say:
" Whenever I take a trip back to the FOB (Forward Operating Base), I take care of the team. They all want haircuts and they all want food. I give the best haircuts in (name of the city withheld) and they all know I cook the best food.
Sometimes I buy local food from the bazaar: eggs, onions, potatoes, rice, tomatoes, etc.
I cook big breakfasts and make nice dinners. They’re on their own for lunch.
Well, tonight I made pizzas. Someone had some Velveeta mailed to them. Someone else had some sauce mailed out to them. Someone else had pepperonis mailed out to them.
So I went to the bazaar and ordered some flat bread.
I made a double boiler for the cheese, cooked the bread and pepperonis and bad-a-bing!
Pizza! Everybody was too full to finish but it was good. "
So, all told, when they aren't in a base, food is up to them. What they receive from home is important!
You have to think that the flat bread is good. It is all hand made and natural and likely tasty.
Looks like it takes a while to put a meal together! You have the appliances and kitchenware that you have.
And that's one fine looking kitchen!
Notice how low the "counter top" is? Just above his knees!
But it seems to be working.
The email was some good news. Not all the news from there is.
