Ozone Park, located in the southwestern borough of Queens, is part of Queens Community Boards 9 and 10. In the 1800s residents were looking for improved housing opportunities. The name Ozone Park was invented to attract residents to a more country feel with breezes from the Atlantic Ocean blowing into a park like community. Ozone Park’s northern border is Atlantic Avenue; its southern border is South Conduit Avenue. The eastern borer is 108th Street while the Western border is the county line with Brooklyn (mostly along Ruby and Drew Streets).
Local transportation includes the Q53, which runs on Woodhaven and Cross Bay Boulevard but only stops at Atlantic and Rockaway Boulevard, the Q7 bus on Rockaway Boulevard, the Q11 up Woodhaven Boulevard, the Q8 on 101st Avenue, the Q21 and Q41 run on Cross Bay Boulevard, the Q112 on Liberty Avenue and the Q24 on Atlantic Avenue. The NYC Subway’s IND Fulton Line (A) runs along Liberty Avenue. Once in Queens, it is elevated so that you can witness the hustle and bustle of the businesses below.
The beautiful landscaped streets of Ozone Park has been the setting for many popular TV shows, movies and historic events and has also had some very famous residents throughout the years. Some examples are from a movie the Bronx Tale, a scene from that movie was shot at Aqueduct Racetrack, the Academy Award movies Goodfellas takes place in Ozone Park. Pope John Paul II celebrated mass at Aqueduct Racetrack in 1995 with over 75,000 in attendance. Actress Bernadette Peters, Singer Cyndi Lauper and Professional wrestler Justin Credible and many more are all noteworthy residents of South Ozone Park.
Ozone Park has a very diverse population comprised of Guyanese, Trinidadians, Bangladeshis, African Americans, Hispanics and Caucasians.
Neighborhood schools include the diverse P.S. 63 Old South School, P.S. 64 Joseph Addabbo School,
P.S. 65 The Raymond York Elementary School, Middle School 137 America’s School Heroes,
Junior High School 202 R. H. Goddard, Junior High School 210 Elizabeth Blackwell,
John Adams High School, and High School for Construction Trades, Engineering and Architecture.
There are also several private schools, St. Elizabeth’s RC Elementary, St. Mary Gate of Heaven RC Elementary, Divine Mercy Catholic Academy, Little Dolphin Pre-School, Our Lady of Perpetual Hope, and Our Lady’s Catholic Academy.
