Tulsa's Spring Into Jazz

The Links Inc. will hold its fourth annual “Spring Into Jazz” gala on April 28th at the Greenwood Culture Center to honor four local Tulsans.  Nicole Jackson from Tulsa, who has toured in Tyler Perry’s “The Marriage Counselor”, will be the evening entertainment.  Tulsa’s first lady Victoria Bartlett, Kermit Hoffmeier, Calvin McCutchen and Violet Patterson will be the Circle of Friends in Service honorees.

The four Tulsans to be honored provide service in various projects.  The Mayor’s Mentoring Program is a project that Bartlett personally takes part in.  She mentors students in eight Tulsa elementary schools.  She has created an after school knitting club for fourth and fifth graders and two after school art clubs.  She also initiated the fitness and health program “Get Lean Tulsa”.

Hoffmeier Inc. provides progressive transportation service across the US, Canada and Mexico.  As a good corporate citizen, Hoffmier supports many school and community projects.

After serving as the Mount Zion Baptist Church senior pastor for some 50 years, McCutchen is now the pastor emeritus and serves on several community boards.  He’s also senior adviser for the First United Baptist District Association and has been a member of the City of Tulsa’s Ethics Commission since 2006.  McCutchen’s life story and several of his favorite sermons have been published in the book “One of the Whosoevers.”

Patterson is a former educator whose career has included tenures at Langston University, Tulsa Junior College, Booker T. Washington High School and the State Training School for Boys in Boley.  She is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, past president of the Tulsa Chapter of Administrative Management Society and past board member of the Metro YWCA.  She is also an active member of the Morning Star Baptist Church and the League of Women Voters of Tulsa.

Tracy Wooten, Michael Fusco’s General Manager, is in charge of catering and Michelle Gentry is president of the local Links chapter.  Proceeds from the gala support the programs of the Tulsa Chapter.  Services to Youth, National Trends and Services and International Trends and Services were implemented to impact public policy, education, public information and economic development.  Tulsa’s Chapter supports the Susan G. Komen Worship in Pink along with Historically Black Colleges and Universities.  Members volunteer with the Rotary Medical Supplies Network.  The group is now collecting books for the Books 2 Africa Project.
