Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw renovated the famous Pinehurst No. 2 golf course to the original look intended by Donald Ross.
Just opened this past March the Pinehurst No. 2 golf course is buzzing with news about the new "old" look and tee times are booked weeks if not months in advance. The golf course was renovated to look like it was intended by the original designer Donald Ross. Donald Ross created over 400 golf courses and made Pinehurst his home.
On this day in April a good friend of mine who is a member of the Pinehurst Country Club kindly took off the second nine holes of her Sunday golf game to drive me around the Pinehurst's famous No. 2 course as well as the premium course No. 4. The transformation is amazing and it is hard to believe the changes.
There is no longer any Bermuda rough on the Pinehurst No. 2 golf course, and it has been replaced with sandy areas with over a 100,000 new wire grass plants. The grass around the sand bunkers has been roughed up and gives the areas around the greens a more natural look than the groomed look it had before the renovation.
There is a lot of buzz around the new "old" look of the Pinehurst No. golf course renovation - and if you don't have the time to visit Pinehurst, you will be able to see it during the 2014 US Open.
