I was tagged for my second Meme by Tom Weiss weeks ago. I have put it off primarily because it is so very hard for me to write about myself. My first Meme can be found here. I wasn't happy with that one and I can honestly say this one doesn't please me either. I started this thinking I was going to use another song "The Wheel" after I left a comment on Jason Sardi's rather philosophical post. But the more I wrote this Meme, the more that Ripple seemed a better fit.
Ripple means different things to different people. For me, Ripple is everything we do, everything we are. Ripple is the embodiment of the spirit we find here on ActiveRain. A fine example of Ripple can be found in one of Tom's posts here.
So here's 5 things you don't know about me.
Each one is accompanied by a different version of the song.
If you have the time please listen to each.
|Closet Deadhead -
For those that don't understand, it isn't about the drugs, the long hair, or the lifestyle. It's about the music. It's about the lyrics. Yes I do have a 1972 Westfalia Camper. But I like my short hair, I don't do drugs, and I'm a workaholic. I also like the obscure Dead derivatives. Grateful Dawg, Dick's Picks, Ratdog, Old and in the Way, and one of my personal favorites, Wake the Dead, a cover band that uses traditional celtic folk instruments.
If you call me at the office, listen closely and you may hear the melodic sounds lightly playing in the background.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken
Ripple in still water
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
There is a road, no simple highway
You who choose to lead must follow
Words by Robert Hunter
Music by Jerry Garcia

I silently moderate the Newbie Group with a team of 5 other absolutely wonderful people who are dedicated to helping those new to ActiveRain find their way, find their voice, and find the rewards that most all of us already know. We all have to start somewhere and the Newbie Group is a great place to start.
I spend some of my time pointing people in the right direction, some of it answering their questions, but the bulk of what I do is delete improper postings that don't adhere to the published rules. I'd much rather spend all my time helping instead of deleting. This seems so sad to me. Please read the rules.
|Broken Bones - |
I started school heading towards a medical profession. You might say I have a strong background in A & P. In the spring of 1985 while riding my RZ-350 in the hills above Berkeley I "ran out of talent" and lost the front end as I entered the turn. I slid on my helmet and left shoulder for quite a while. I might have been ok if it wasn't for the curb. It broke just about every bone in my left shoulder. For those keeping track at home that would be the scapula (completely shattered), the clavical (clearly cracked), and my humerous (I had a hairline crack in the shaft of the ball)
Less than two weeks later, I wasn't supposed to be riding, but was on my way to an A & P final of all things, when an elderly man pulled out in front of me, forcing me to lay down my brand new Honda Interceptor. I couldn't possibly break much more but I destroyed yet another bike.
|Option Trader - |
Options are simply the right to purchase or sell a stock at a certain price in the future. They are the closest form to legalized gambling that I know of. I have been an active trader for years. Strangely, I don't like to gamble, not on sports, not in Vegas, not even amongst friends.
I could talk for hours about Japanese Candlesticks, Fundamentals, Technical's, MACD, Stochastics, Leaps, Collars, Straddles, Strangles, Condors, Butterflies, Naked Puts and Calls (just to name a few). While the names are intriguing, and I could easily make it a full time profession, it just isn't personally satisfying, it doesn't feed my soul. I find the business significantly empty and hollow.

Very early on I saw the benefits of blogging. I have been a daily blogger since early 2001. I write to 5 other "outside" blogs just about daily.
|As a bonus, here's an excellent tribute to the original. |
The Ripple of tagging continues...
Primarily because I checked and they are not on Lucky's List, they intrigue me, and they all recently added me as an associate.
(for some reason my original post deleted itself and so this is a repost)
