Yippee....one more reason for me to love Illinois.  I guess we now have the higheIllinois is Hit Hardest at the pumpst prices in the United States now.  I'm really curious as to what determines what region has what gas prices?  For me, it's simply amazing that we have the highest prices.  Our average gas price is

$4.27 PER GALLON!

Politics aside, I do wonder why:

1)  We aren't mining for oil within our own United States;

2)  Why aren't we drilling offshore?

3)  Why is Illinois higher than 49 other states?

People being interviewed are saying that these prices are amazed at how much that they consciously are driving less.

I'm doing the same.  Is this affecting yourself as well?

Larry, we here in California are not so different.  I thought we were the highest; you beat us by 5 Cents.  I went to Phoenix recently and the price of gas if $0.65 less per gallon!  Here in CA, it's taxes; is it the same in Illinois?

There is no way to answer the question of High Gasoline Prices without getting Political, since Politics are behind the High Fuel Prices.

The Obama EPA announced today that it is banning Shell Oil from drilling off the coast of Alaska

This is the same Obama EPA that bans "American" Oil Companies from drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, even though Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, China via Cuba, and other nations are drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

It's 3.88 to 3.99 here in the Louisville KY area, which is still ridiculous. I remember on 9/11/01 when some of the local gas stations in my hometown raised the prices to over $4.00, and this was back when the prices were about 2.00 or so a gallon, if that.

I remember the shock I felt thinking that everyone would stay home if prices were that all the time...but that is not the case. Just like a frog in a boiling pot, we've gotten used to the warmth until it's too late to get out and we are fried. LOL

Hi Larry - Your "expensive" gas is quite inexpensive for us.  We are paying about $1.35 CAD per litre.

Larry,

I just paid $4.00/gallon for regular unleaded last Sunday.  That is the highest I've seen it in my area.  I don't see the media talking about this as passionately as when it went over $3.00 when GWB was president... not a political statement, just fact.

Gas prices are affecting everyone at every economic level. There's no end in site until we replace most of them in Washington. I am surprised at your prices, Obama usually does a much better job of taking care of the political favors he owes!

If you're taking a survey, I paid $4.35 for 91 Octane in the South San Francisco Bay area.

Those poor people who moved 90 minutes away from Silicon Valley to escape high RE prices are paying big time.  Their home values collapsed and now they're gasoline costs have skyrocketed.

We are paying $3.97 per gallon here and we are feeling the pain. However, I'm very worried about how high gas prices will go this time. I've heard a lot of talk about $5/gal and just a little talk about $6.00/gal.

I'm sure that we will blow right by the $4.00/gal threshold before Memorial Day.

Oh my gosh, I feel so sad for you! This news makes me feel a little better since our gas prices are around $3.85 right now - I should be more thankful since it looks like we are climbing to reach the $4.00 a gallon price very soon.

That is strange that Illinois has the highest, I would think it would be California or New York. (sorry guys)  We are at $3.62-$3.67 right now.  Which is outrageous.

Larry:  Have to agree, why Illinois? But then why is milk high in Wisconsin compared to IL? I won't be able to afford the 'summer blend' the way this is going.  I only put so much in the tank & then that's it.  I can't afford a fill up.
