SEO secrets revealed

I could tell you all my secrets to make it to the top of the heap, but then I'd have to kill you!

Just kidding.  Here are some  no brainers:

  • Don't use large file images, keep them small.  Remember that some people are still surfing in the slow lane, so have a little mercy.  If a user is impatient, they aren't going to wait for the pictures to load if there is nothing else to keep their attention.... therefore, you lose.
  • Use plenty of words, and repeat the words that are relevant.  And use those same words behind the scenes too.... image tags, title tags.

Thanks for the great post...Some very wise words.  All too often people get wrapped up in the latest and greatest web tools.  By the time the get finished building their dynamic, flashed out, animated gif'd, image heavy, video streaming site, the have a monster that only the fastest of connections can make sense of.

As for key words, I am a big fan of using the SEO modeling technique (see earlier post) to determine what your competitions keyword usage is.  This takes the guess work out of it.  To beat your competition you only have to be a bit better...sounds obvious but the first step is determining what benchmarks you have to beat.

Thanks again for the great post and I really like your picture!

Real Estate SEO & Websites

Flashy animated sites just stoke the egos of the owner and don't do much to bring clients in.

I was a marketing guy at a small architectural firm before I went out on my own doing SEO. We clobbered the big design firms in our niche who were busy hiring flashy web design shops to build cool looking Flash animated websites. Then when developers came looking for an architect in our niche, the big firms' websites didn't show up..at all...and ours was at the top of the page. We got millions in design fees, hot projects from all over the world, and a lot of media recognition.

And it all started with good search engine friendly writing. We were where our clients were looking for specialists...on top of Google.

Georgina: Just make sure you are not guilty of keyword stuffing. Make sure your content is looks and read naturally. Also make sure you use a good keyword tool to find good variations of your main keyword. Of course you want to show up for the big traffic keywords but if you can get the long tail you will bring in tons of relevant traffic that you did not even think of by just focusing on one or two big keywords.
