"You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when fold 'em, know when to walk away.....know when to run" ~ Kenny Rogers in The Gambler

You also gotta know when you may be in over your head and when to bring in the professionals.

I'm working on the biggest listing of my nearly 19 year career.  (I'll tell you more about it at a later time.)

I knew when to fold 'em and call Frank Vit Owner / Digital media designer with WLK Omnimedia.  I'd seen his work on Facebook with one of my fellow agents.  Her video was nothing short of beautiful.

I knew that this listing was deserving of the same kind of treatment. It is nothing short of beautiful, as well.

I called Frank on a Wednesday and was able to secure an appointment for Friday.  He explained what to expect and how long he would need to complete the job. He also cared about what ideas I had.  Since I have never worked as a videographer, I pretty much told Frank that I trusted him to do whatever he thought was best.

I just had one rule:

I don't want to be filmed walking.  I could not envision that walking and talking at the same time would be something that I would be good at.......well, at least not on camera.  I can only imagine if I had to walk, talk and chew gum at the same time, on camera!  (I  know there's a bad joke in there somewhere!)

I had decided to be on camera for a very short amount of time, but even so I was a little bit anxious.  Frank put me at ease.

You ask what was the worst part of the whole experience?

Figuring out what to wear and watching myself on tape!

I can't wait to see the finished project!  Frank also took some stunning photos of the house as part of the package.  I can't wait to show them to you when the time is right.

In the meantime, here is Frank's contact information.  I'm sure he doesn't just work for Realtors.  There are a lot of life's events that could be captured on video.  I bet he could put you at ease, too, so you can have treasured memories recorded forever.

Good call hiring a professional for the luxury listing. I usually do my own video walk-thrus on all my listings and then just upload them to youtube. I use the youtube link as my "virtual tour " link on my MLS. This way it is very acecsssible to consumers and I think video is so much better than traditional virtual tours (of panning around on still pictures) I almost always do my videos in 1 take by starting at the front door and walking through the whole house while talking off the cuff about what I am seeing. I just imagine I am showing the house to a friend and pointing out all of the features and anything that I feel should be said. Of course, most of my listings are for first-time buyers and rentals. I would DEFINITELY hire a professional for a luxury listing. Vendors in my area charge around $100 for this service, including editing and uploading into youtube. Nice post. Thanks for sharing

The camera that Frank is using looks like something from a Steven Spielberg Movie Set.

Can't wait to see the Video - and the Listing.

Be sure to post it on AR!

Chris, how thrilling for you!

Having been in the industry, if you don't mind, I have a few tips... Don't wear red, it tends to bleed in the picture, white will glare, and black tends to be bad as well. Plaids and small patterns are out too. Having said that, Solid pastels, or a patterned scarf would work. Be aware of your shoes, professional audio boom mics are very sensitive so make sure your heels are not too loud on the floors. If you're walking and talking you'll probably have to wear a lapel mic so will need a place for the battery pack, so a pocket or waistband is needed. Because of the location of the lapel mic, earrings and jewellery need to not be clanky. If you are talking a lot about the listing rehearse your copy, you want your delivery to be perfect so you don't have to do retakes over and over, which is not only frustrating, but costly, not only in the original shoot time, but editing afterwards. Having said all that, do try to have fun and try to relax, the camera will pick up if you're not and you'll not like what you see on review! Been there! :) Can't wait to see!
